Exploring the emerge of terrorist groups with emphasis on the ideological motives

The book “ Afghanistan and terrorism, examining Legal Dimensions and International Security” written by Sayed Mehdi Munadi, a university lecturer and researcher in the field of regional and international security who is at the same time a diplomat in the foreign ministry of the country, has been recently published by the Center for Strategic Studies of Afghan foreign ministry.

The book is exploring the emergence of terrorist groups including Al-Qaeda, Taliban and Daesh, emphasizing on the ideological motivations of these groups.

The book has 6 chapter and 280 pages and has been published by the Center for Strategic Studies of Afghan foreign ministry.

In an interview with the reporter of the Awa news agency Sayed Mehdi Munadi has said: “The ideological violence based on the political goals, in the long- run war in the past several decades, affected by several domestic and foreign actors, has brought terrorism and radicalism to Afghanistan.”

According to him, terrorism in the domain of government-nation and in the regions with different cultures emerge differently and in accordance with the social indicators of every society and the fundamental structures of terroristic behaviors along with the requirements introduced by the regional and international players. This phenomenon has gradually changed to a contagious social and political disease. Violence and crime emerge as a mafia behavior among people and when the ideology starts to become a mafia behavior or when the crime is seen as an ideology the most important negative indicator of terrorism emerge. In this case, terrorism crosses the political and social borders more than any other time.

The researcher continues: “The spread of terrorism in the region makes us understand the correct meaning of terrorism, explore the reasons and causes that how and why terrorism emerges and find scientific and practical ways of fighting terrorism. In this process explaining the nature of terrorism and the assessment of operational plans for fighting terrorism are among the most important issues to be discussed. The study asks the attention of the legal system and international security forums to create and design legal strategies for fighting terrorism to reach a common goal.

The book is a research answering the questions of what the terrorist groups like Al-Qaede, Taliban and Daesh are, how they have emerged and what is there mutual impacts on the legal and international security aspects. The process of emerging of terroristic groups in Afghanistan, their influence and the current situation of these groups are three main topics of this book. Following these topics, those who are interested in the historical process of forming of terrorism and radicalism, the relation between terrorism and legal and international security across the world and finally the second and third generation of radicalism that are tended to terrorism, can find many interesting articles to read in this book.

This work has been studied over the course of seven years in the form of a thesis and a textbook for the lesson of terrorism and international security, now published as a book.

The book is written mostly for the students and researchers who work in the field of terrorism and security but people interested in history can also benefit from the book.

First chapter: Theoretical framework, this chapter focuses on explaining the theoretical foundation for the formation of terroristic behaviors from different perspectives. This section has also studied the western and eastern theories about the factors of the foundation of terrorism.

E, Fifth chapter: Afghanistan from Jihad to radicalism. This chapter focuses on the elements of nationalism, political Islam and ….that have helped the formation of small and radical Islamic groups during Jihad and after this period.

F, Sixth chapter: this part under the name of Afghanistan from Islamic radicalism to fundamental terrorism and to emerge of Daesh, talks about how Taliban and Daesh emerged in Afghanistan. This chapter also talks about the identity of Daesh and how the terrorist groups tend to mafiaism. At the end the chapter discuss two scenarios in front of Taliban, first to go for peace and Afghan identity or to strengthen relations among Taliban groups and other terrorist groups and support the idea of mafiaism of terroristic behaviors.

At the end of the book, titled as summary, recommendation and conclusion the effort has been made to simplify and summarize the content of this book.
